About the role

  • Aeromechanics Engineer conducting design assessments and testing for new aircraft engine components at GE Aerospace. Collaborating globally on aeromechanics technology development and reporting certification results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform aeromechanical assessments in support of new engine design including modal analyses for frequency placement, forced response analysis and flutter assessments using finite element models (FEM) and/or unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis.
  • Prepare for rig and engine tests.
  • Define airfoil instrumentation such as strain gages and light probes.
  • Process component test data from ping test, laser vibrometry and bench fatigue.
  • Generate on-test vibration monitoring documentation and prepare test plans.
  • Execute rig and engine tests safely across all test sites globally.
  • Monitor airfoil vibrations real time and modify test plans as needed.
  • Process dynamic strain gage and light probe data using dynamic signal processing methods.
  • Summarize key responses and observations.
  • Document results in certification reports.
  • Support aeromechanical technology development projects including advanced fluid-structure interaction methods and HCF mitigation technologies.
  • Prepare and present technical information to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure proper documentation of aeromechanics design, analysis, and test data.
  • Share engineering information, lessons learned, and promote open dialogue.
  • Prepare invention disclosures for technology that provides a competitive advantage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis in vibration, aerodynamics, acoustics, or aeromechanics and a minimum of 3 years of relevant technical experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • OR Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis in vibration, aerodynamics, acoustics, or aeromechanics and a minimum of 2 years of relevant technical experience.
  • OR PhD from an accredited college/university in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis in vibration, aerodynamics, acoustics, or aeromechanics.
  • Desired Characteristics Master’s degree or Ph.D.in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and finite element analysis software such as ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics design and computational fluid dynamic software such as CFX.
  • Experience in aeroelastic vibration test, instrumentation, and data analysis.
  • Programming skills such as Fortran, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Highly motivated, passionate, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Proven teaming and collaboration skills.
