About the role

  • Join Ford’s Electric Vehicles team as a Physical Prototypes Engineer. Collaborate on innovative electric vehicle prototypes for a sustainable future.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Aerodynamics, Ergonomics, Engineering, and Design teams to create visually, geometrically and functionally representative physical test properties
  • Develop unique approaches for using physical test properties to evaluate and define aerodynamic devices or customer user experiences in future electric vehicles
  • Hands-on CAD design, fabrication, and assembly of static and functional prototypes at component, subsystem, and full vehicle levels
  • Project manage and source components from internal and external vendors of waterjet, rapid prototyped, machined components, and composite layup

Requirements

  • Pursuit of Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Must be able to work in Long Beach, CA office for a 6 month period
  • Candidates must graduate and be available for full-time work prior to September 2025
  • Experience in one or more CAD programs (Catia, NX, Creo, Solidworks)
  • Experience with hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
  • Experience defining rapid prototyping, machining, and fabrication processes and materials to achieve the desired final appearance and functional requirements
  • Awareness of DFA, DFMEA, GD&T, and Solid Mechanics
  • Team-first mindset and ability to multi-task under tight deadlines
  • Ability to think creatively and to champion innovative prototype solutions
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills, superb communication, and able to adapt to dynamic requirements
