About the role

  • Packaging Engineer designing and deploying packaging solutions for automotive parts at Ford. Collaborating with manufacturing teams in a hybrid work environment, based in Dearborn, MI.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Ford Purchasing to quote, analyze bids, and place orders with, design houses, fabricators and manufacturers
  • Review Fabricator's quality planning to ensure it is in line with standards and expectations
  • Schedule and complete transportation testing. Work with our test engineer to determine test criteria and document pass/fail conditions. If required, develop and implement an action plan to correct any issues identified during testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement of container designs
  • Increase pack density to drive lower freight and labor costs
  • Reduce container unit costs and tooling costs through optimized designs and new technologies
  • Improve part protection, functionality and durability
  • Participate in campaign efforts as required to address repair and/or quality issues with containers
  • Advance the science and discipline of packaging engineering through the pursuit of new technologies, methods, and ideas
  • Work a hybrid model with 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain / Logistics
  • 1 or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment (internship and/or coop experience will be considered)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel as needed up to 10% (typically within U.S./Canada/Mexico and 1 to 3-days in duration)
  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter Engineering
  • 3DX experience
  • CATIA V5 experience
  • Fabrication knowledge with steel and aluminum racking
  • Experience with the deployment of packaging that interfaces with automation
