About the role

  • Legal Advisor specialized in labor relations at the Fédération québécoise des municipalités. Supporting municipalities with labor law compliance and relations management in Quebec's vibrant regions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject-matter advisor to members of the Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FQM) on labour relations;
  • Advise members on the interpretation and application of laws, workplace policies and collective agreements, manage grievance processes and represent members on labour relations committees (when required);
  • Draft legal opinions;
  • Carry out workplace climate assessments and disciplinary investigations;
  • Negotiate and draft various types of agreements, collective agreements, contracts, policies and other labour relations documents;
  • Conduct in-depth case law and doctrinal research on laws, regulations and labour relations issues;
  • Deliver training and write articles on labour relations topics;
  • Recommend improvements and optimizations to HR processes and propose required adjustments to policies or practices in response to developments in labour law for FQM members;
  • Act as a spokesperson during collective agreement negotiations;
  • Work in partnership with other FQM departments.

Requirements

  • Hold an undergraduate law degree (LL.B. or J.D.);
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in labour/employment law and in managing complex, diverse files;
  • Member of the Barreau du Québec;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (occasional local and regional travel);
  • Excellent knowledge of labour laws and regulations and of legal research tools/databases;
  • Proficient with core Office software and adaptable to new technologies;
  • Full professional proficiency in French, both written and spoken;
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict management or mediation;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and resolve complex situations creatively;
  • Integrity and courage;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision;
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment.
