About the role

• Senior Software Engineer Tech Lead managing interdisciplinary software teams at DigitalService. Collaborating with product management, design, and user research to deliver scalable software solutions.

Responsibilities

• As a Tech Lead at DigitalService, you work closely with leaders from other areas such as product and transformation management, design, and user research, and coordinate the work of an interdisciplinary software team.
• You combine solid technical knowledge with the ability to lead a cross-functional team of developers and to plan and prioritize operational work to deliver high-quality, scalable, and sustainable software.
• You write high-quality code — depending on the project using technologies such as Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, and React/Vue — and are responsible for architecture and technical decisions for a core system or product.
• You plan and prioritize technical work together with disciplines like Product and Design and ensure that quality, security, and maintainability are embedded in the implementation.
• You work closely with other Tech Leads and disciplines, promote cross-team collaboration to clarify dependencies, and maintain close communication with executives and project partners at the decision-making level.
• You support engineers in their professional development and accompany software throughout its entire lifecycle.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in software development and architecture as well as in operating complex products/projects with end-user impact, preferably already in Tech Lead or comparable roles.
• You are a full-stack generalist with a backend focus and are proficient in technologies such as Java/Spring, JavaScript (Node.js), or TypeScript. Additional experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is a plus.
• You are familiar with DevOps topics and CI/CD, appreciate collaborative methods like pair programming, and are comfortable working with Infrastructure as Code.
• You prefer working in agile, multidisciplinary teams. You are results-oriented, decisive, and bring strong intrinsic motivation to improve the digital aspects of public administration.
• Nice to have: experience in the public sector or regulated environments as well as with accessible or user-centered digital services.
• You have at least B2-level communication skills in German and English and feel comfortable speaking both languages.
