About the role

  • Senior Legal Affairs Advisor at Desjardins managing legal compliance and representation in complex matters. Leading strategic initiatives and advising on laws and regulations for the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead specialized development projects, initiatives and activities that have significant impact across the organization
  • Advise clients and partners to help them position, plan, develop, execute and monitor strategic projects and initiatives
  • Identify, analyze and diagnose major issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies
  • Interpret laws and regulations, issue legal opinions, and prepare and validate rules, standards, policies, procedures, forms and agreements affecting the organization
  • Represent the organization in court: develop strategy, draft pleadings, prepare witnesses, deliver oral arguments and negotiate the best possible terms in complex matters
  • Develop and update policies, standards, models and programs to support your unit’s strategic projects and initiatives
  • Represent your unit before decision-making bodies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec (Quebec Bar) or the Chambre des notaires du Québec
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both French and English
