About the role

  • Product Counsel managing legal analysis for Cloudflare's technology transactions. Engaging cross-functional teams to address legal risks and provide actionable guidance in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Translate complex legal analysis into clear, actionable guidance for fast-moving product and engineering teams.
  • Proactively assess legal risks and advise product, engineering and business teams building services that reshape how information moves across the Internet—and the laws that govern it.
  • Review and architect legal frameworks for technology transactions related agreements, such as, technology partner agreements, inbound IP licensing agreements, and marketplace arrangements for Cloudflare’s developer platform.
  • Review marketing event agreements and support Cloudflare’s team with promotions and sweepstakes.
  • Draft terms of service, disclosures, policies, and related processes.
  • Apply privacy-by-design principles and partner with the privacy team on data-flow reviews, PIAs, and other privacy deliverables.
  • Solicit invention disclosures, support patent strategy, and protect Cloudflare’s trade secrets.
  • Partner with product and marketing teams on product marketing collateral and claim substantiation.
  • Build and refine processes that enable the Legal team to scale effectively as Cloudflare continues to expand.
  • Engage externally on behalf of Cloudflare in areas where you are a subject matter expert.

Requirements

  • JD degree with strong academic credentials and admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably with technology companies. Prior experience with Internet security and infrastructure companies is desired.
  • Technical background / expertise is highly desired. While a science or technical degree is not a prerequisite for this job, a passion for technologies is.
  • Experience with copyright law and Internet law is desired (e.g., AI Act, Data Act, net neutrality, DMCA, CFAA).
  • Strong communication skills and cooperative team player. Lead with empathy and understanding while embracing diverse points of view. Flexibility to adapt and thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, with lawyers and non-lawyers, to establish effective solutions efficiently and in an amenable manner.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage many tasks on complex projects. Experience with Jira or other project management solutions is desired.
