About the role

Responsibilities
- Define modernization architecture, target-state cloud designs, and COBOL migration strategies using Rocket Enterprise Server / Enterprise Developer.
- Lead modernization initiatives aligned with enterprise architecture, cloud adoption, and governance frameworks.
- Architect mainframe‑to‑cloud solutions (GCP preferred) covering infrastructure, runtime, data migration, integrations, and operations.
- Oversee installation, configuration, scaling, and optimization of Rocket/Micro Focus environments on Linux (SUSE preferred).
- Approve technical designs, system configurations, environment blueprints, and performance/capacity plans.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting across FDS, Linux, CICS, IMS, XA resources, and cloud runtime environments.
- Manage vendor engagement with Rocket Software/Micro Focus for PU updates, patches, escalations, and remediation.
- Set standards for file management, Bitbucket governance, branching models, and code promotion to QA and production.
- Architect batch modernization and integrations using schedulers such as Control‑M.
- Define and implement enterprise security, including SSL/TLS certificate management and secure connectivity.
- Guide Linux shell scripting automation, environment provisioning, and operational runbooks.
- Mentor teams, support global delivery models, and ensure consistent modernization execution.
- Collaborate with mainframe SMEs to validate COBOL logic, performance, and modernization alignment.
Requirements
- 10+ years of IT experience focused on application modernization and mainframe transformation.
- 5+ years of hands‑on expertise with Rocket Software (Micro Focus).
- Proven experience architecting modernization using Rocket Enterprise Server / Enterprise Developer on Linux (SUSE preferred).
- Strong background in COBOL development, debugging, analysis, and modernization.
- Expertise in FDS implementation, troubleshooting, remediation, and environment stabilization.
- Solid Linux administration experience (SUSE preferred) with configuration, automation, and operational governance.
- Hands‑on experience architecting mainframe‑to‑cloud migrations (GCP preferred).
- Experience managing PU updates, vendor escalations, and platform-level issue resolution.
- Strong knowledge of file system management, Bitbucket repo structures, branching, and controlled code promotions.
- Experience architecting and integrating batch workloads with Control‑M.
- Ability to drive performance tuning, capacity planning, and runtime optimization.
- Expertise in SSL/TLS certificate implementation and secure communication management.
- Strong Linux shell scripting skills for automation and debugging.
- Deep understanding of CICS, IMS, XA resource configuration, and emulation environments.
- Strong knowledge of IBM Mainframe technologies (COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, Flat files).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional teams and influencing modernization direction.
