About the role

  • Equipment & Tool Engineer designing automated control systems for aircraft production at Boeing. Involved in project management and real-time troubleshooting to enhance production efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements from stakeholders and define project scope.
  • Evaluate make/buy alternatives and develop specifications and designs (CAD as required).
  • Develop and debug equipment software and provide equipment documentation.
  • Deliver real-time troubleshooting support for equipment issues that factory personnel can’t diagnose.
  • Manage project budgets and timelines as required.
  • Evaluate, select, and validate hardware and software for automated control systems.
  • Implement and validate upgraded hardware and software in production automation.
  • Design and implement safety solutions for equipment.
  • Analyze equipment data and perform root cause analysis for systemic production issues.
  • Develop, test, and evaluate software and hardware changes.
  • Design, develop, and support equipment network technologies and cybersecurity measures.
  • Partner with Operations to define and implement data collection strategies.
  • Design improvements or new production equipment to address obsolescence and systemic issues.
  • Verify that equipment specifications (materials and software) in final designs meet requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production issues affecting quality, safety, and repeatability; coordinate with stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Lead and manage projects for acquisition or modification of production equipment, including budget and schedule management.
  • Prepare and release bid and purchase specifications for equipment from suppliers.
  • Analyze design/build concepts to ensure producibility and investigate alternative solutions.
  • Maintain and enhance data collection systems tracking equipment performance (OEE, MTBF, MTTR, uptime).
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable industry, electrical, and safety codes.
  • Maintain configuration and documentation for hardware and software, and implement interim workarounds as needed.
  • Work cross-functionally with fabrication, purchasing, finance, quality, safety, services, R&D, suppliers, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 2 or more years’ related engineering work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 3 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred)
  • 3 or more years of experience working in a production environment (preferred)
  • Electrical or Computer Engineering Degree or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience with systems diagnostics and troubleshooting (preferred)
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, servers, and databases (preferred)
  • Programming experience with C#, Java, Visual Basic, or similar (preferred)
  • PLC programming experience, e.g. Siemens, Rockwell, Fanuc, or similar (preferred)
  • Experience in Automated Test Equipment with PXI, PCI, VXI, IEEE-488, RS-485, Can bus (preferred)
  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD) with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor or Catia (preferred)
  • Experience administering Windows operating system (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Windows, Office, Project, Visual Studio, etc.) (preferred)
