About the role

  • Structural Engineer developing high quality design packages for BGS at Y12 National Security Complex. Collaborating with project teams and providing technical support in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers
  • Routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel
  • Must possess technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of Structural Engineering
  • Provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards
  • Perform building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab, oversight of outside engineering firms, steel and concrete design, and machine installations
  • Must be proficient with developing structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (steel, concrete, cold-formed steel), structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting (or oversight of drafting), and preparation of construction specifications (generally in the form of general notes on the drawings)
  • Must be familiar with consensus design codes
  • CAD drafting experience not required but preferred, along with any 3D modeling experience
  • Structural modeling experience with STAAD.Pro is also preferred
  • Must have the ability to plan, self-perform, and/or direct all engineering design team activities on a project which include but are not limited to: Development of detailed project scope, design time-lines, functions and requirements, design basis and criteria, design schedule and tracking, project engineering budget, calculations, drawing generation, research, design review, inter-discipline design coordination, design approval, design change control, specifications, approval of contractor technical and material submittals and field verification of construction compliance to design
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited school with a minimum of 10 years' experience (with emphasis on Structural Engineering)
  • An active professional engineering (PE) license is preferred
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees
  • Must be willing to work in a production environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Successful drug screening
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge
  • Requires a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
