About the role

  • Associate providing tax advocacy services at leading advisory firm Baker Tilly. Helping clients navigate civil controversy matters and IRS audits while developing professional skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tax advocacy services on civil controversy matters.
  • Participating in IRS audits and administrative hearings.
  • Advocate on clients' behalf before the collection, examination, and Appeals divisions of the Internal Revenue Service, and all 50 state tax agencies.
  • Research and consult on various tax matters, respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries when requested, make recommendations to the client for consideration.
  • Proactively build relationships and communicate effectively with the client to provide superior client service.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of clients’ businesses and industries by having direct client interaction while working on multiple aspects of an engagement.
  • Invest in professional development through active participation in training sessions and networking events both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrate excellent team skills, positive attitude and high ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in accounting or law, or a related degree in business, with sufficient course work and credits to sit for the CPA and/or Bar exam in the state you are being considered.
  • JD or other applicable advanced degree a plus.
  • Outstanding academic performance required, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Relevant internship, work experience and/or involvement with a professional organization.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment with all levels of client personnel.
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving.
  • Organizational and analytical skills, initiative, adaptability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
