Bilingual tax administrator ensuring compliance with Canadian tax laws and regulations. Collaborating with internal teams to process tax returns and perform audits in a hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
Ensure scheduled tax reviews are processed and completed within required timeframes.
Ensure all transactional corrections are addressed and completed prior to filing tax returns.
Ensure all tax-related requests received are handled within the timeframes set by the service level agreement.
Be responsible for producing tax slips and sending files to DOXIM.
Review all vendor portals before deadlines to ensure instructions are accurate and up to date.
Escalate any tax-related issues that require management review and intervention.
Stay current on CRA and IRS regulations regarding qualified intermediaries, and on FATCA and NCD rules by reviewing legislation, press releases, and industry bulletins.
Prepare and/or review year-end tax reporting forms for client accounts, whether plan-related or non-plan-related.
Regularly monitor the CRA, Revenu Québec (MRQ), IRS and the investment industry regulatory bodies (formerly the MFDA and IIROC) websites for tax changes and communicate updates to the team to revise procedural manuals accordingly.
Gather information for internal and external auditors.
Provide support and service for preparing appropriate client reporting.
Review the current monthly tax verification process for tax information.
Validate data by comparing tax information to account details in our internal system.
Identify outstanding items and resolve them in a timely manner.
Proactively identify and implement process improvements.
Research and promptly resolve reported issues.
Ensure all variances in client accounts are forwarded to the processing team for timely handling.
Make payroll remittances for tax withholdings to the CRA, MRQ and IRS and reconcile internal tax control accounts to CRA, MRQ and IRS remittance accounts.
Process monthly tax withholding remittances to the CRA, MRQ and IRS within prescribed deadlines.
Ensure correct and timely calculation and remittance of non-resident withholding tax and withholding tax on reserves as required by regulations for resident and non-resident clients.
Maintain and document departmental procedures.
Recommend and implement procedures to streamline workflow.
Requirements
Post-secondary education; professional designation in accounting, business administration and/or financial management.
Four to six years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in tax reporting.
Knowledge of CRA regulations and the investment industry regulatory bodies (formerly the MFDA and IIROC).
Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or the Investment Funds in Canada course is an asset.
Excellent communication skills. Fluent in both written and spoken French and English to effectively communicate with partners, clients and colleagues across Canada.
