About the role

  • Vice President leading catastrophe research and event response for Arch Capital. Overseeing model governance, event response, and risk decisioning in a global role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evaluation, validation, and governance of third‑party catastrophe models , leveraging multiple vendor and open‑source frameworks including AIR, RMS, KCC, and Oasis , across key perils and regions.
  • Own Arch’s model change management framework , including interpretation of vendor updates, financial module changes, and implications for underwriting and portfolio risk.
  • Develop and maintain Arch’s enterprise view of risk by region, peril, and line of business (Property, Marine, Workers’ Compensation, Specialty lines, etc.).
  • Integrate climate change considerations into catastrophe risk interpretation, scenario analysis, and long‑term portfolio insights.
  • Engage with external research partners , including CERCat participants, to stay current on emerging science, model methodologies, and climate research.
  • Communicate complex modeling concepts, uncertainty, and limitations clearly to non‑technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Oversee Arch’s global catastrophe event response process , including readiness, execution, and post‑event analysis.
  • Lead the mapping and modeling of anticipated events (e.g., hurricanes) and realized events (e.g., flood, earthquake, wildfire), delivering timely exposure and loss insights.
  • Ensure event response outputs are consistent, auditable, and decision‑focused , supporting underwriting actions, moratoriums, and executive communications.
  • Continuously improve event response speed, accuracy, and scalability through process optimization, automation, and advanced analytics .
  • Support Arch’s London and Lloyd’s platform , ensuring catastrophe analytics meet LCM5 (exposure management) and LCM9 (catastrophe risk modeling) expectations.
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Portfolio Management to ensure catastrophe analytics are aligned with regulatory, governance, and capital frameworks .
  • Represent Catastrophe Management in internal and external discussions related to model governance, research, and risk oversight .
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of catastrophe analytics professionals.
  • Set strategic priorities and ensure alignment with broader Catastrophe Analytics and enterprise risk objectives.
  • Partner with Technology and Data teams to advance AI‑enabled analytics , automation, and next‑generation catastrophe tooling.
  • Contribute to long‑term strategy around model innovation, climate analytics, and advanced risk insights .

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Data Science, Actuarial Science, or similar).
  • 10+ years of experience in catastrophe modeling, risk analytics, or related insurance/reinsurance roles.
  • Deep expertise across multiple catastrophe modeling platforms (e.g., AIR, RMS, KCC, Oasis).
  • Demonstrated experience leading event response and loss estimation for major catastrophe events.
  • Strong leadership experience managing senior analysts or small expert teams.
  • Ability to translate technical risk insights into clear, actionable business recommendations .
