About the role

  • Project Director managing hydroelectric project portfolios at ANDRITZ Canada. Leading teams to ensure timely project execution and client satisfaction in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of project managers and systems engineers who coordinate activities of team members from different departments.
  • Forecast workload to ensure the project management department is staffed to execute the project portfolio.
  • Structure the kick-off of all new projects, define financial objectives and establish operational strategy with the team.
  • Ensure project teams develop high-level and detailed planning and coordinate the activities required to meet contractual and financial objectives agreed with all departments.
  • Ensure project teams comply with contractual obligations, technical specifications, quality and health & safety standards for engineering, procurement, fabrication, and on-site activities, and execute all project-related activities in a timely manner for projects under their supervision.
  • Define claim negotiation strategies with project managers and, when necessary, lead commercial negotiations with the client for larger or more complex claims.
  • Escalate critical issues to other department directors and help define and support mitigation or resolution plans.
  • Review documentation related to monthly and quarterly project reviews prepared by project managers.
  • Report regularly to senior management on the status of projects in their portfolio.
  • Perform risk and opportunity assessments and detail potential financial variances relative to established targets.
  • Analyze, define and implement, together with project managers, a contingency plan to correct any failure or deficiency that could directly impact project outcomes (costs, schedule, quality).
  • Ensure project teams properly close out a project once activities are completed.
  • Manage special projects as required.

Requirements

  • Degree as a mechanical or civil engineer or as a mechanical technologist, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in hydropower or in heavy steel structures manufacturing and related manufacturing activities.
  • Minimum five (5) years of project management experience.
  • Experience managing and supervising direct reports.
  • Experience with on-site and construction activities.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing projects with inherent complexity and accelerated schedules.
  • Excellent negotiation skills for managing project changes and resolving claims.
  • Excellent listening and oral/written communication skills, with fluency in French and English.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to switch between projects or initiatives under tight deadlines.
  • Professionalism and tact in representing the company with internal and external clients.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office.
  • Availability to travel as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (an asset).
  • PMP certification (an asset).
