About the role
- Associate General Counsel for healthcare transactions at Duke University Health System. Leading legal strategy for complex healthcare deals and advising executive leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex healthcare transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, clinical integrations, and strategic partnerships
- Direct legal strategy for multi-party negotiations involving health system leadership, external partners, and outside counsel
- Draft, review, and negotiate high-impact agreements critical to DUHS’s clinical and strategic objectives
- Advise executive leadership on corporate governance, entity formation, nonprofit compliance, and organizational structuring
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor on healthcare regulatory and transactional issues and mentor other attorneys as needed
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- Licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina or ability to become licensed within 12 months of employment
- At least 12+ years of progressively responsible legal experience, with substantial experience in healthcare transactions and regulatory compliance
- Extensive experience leading major healthcare transactions, including deal strategy, negotiation, due diligence, risk analysis, and closing
- Experience advising senior executives and institutional leaders in a complex academic medical center or health system environment
- Working knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulatory frameworks, including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Civil Monetary Penalties, HIPAA, and value-based arrangements
