About the role

  • Serve as Proper’s strategic advisor to portfolio companies, partnering with leadership teams to diagnose operations, align priorities, and translate Proper’s platform playbook into measurable results.
  • Participate in M&A lifecycle activities: diligence to assess operational readiness and risk, shape integration thesis, and own onboarding and stabilization of newly acquired companies.
  • Operate hands-on within a lean team: execute initiatives with limited delegation, balancing strategic vision with tactical delivery.
  • Lead property operations initiatives across the platform: identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive strategic initiatives such as property insurance program, ancillary revenue strategies, and SOP development; lead the cross-company SOP department and partner with third-party vendors.
  • Serve as primary liaison with portfolio companies to ensure smooth integrations and ongoing alignment with Proper’s standards.
  • Build strong relationships with leaders across portfolio companies and adapt communication to different audiences.
  • Develop and track KPIs to assess operational health, integration progress, and strategic outcomes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, accounting, technology, and people teams to provide comprehensive portfolio support.

Requirements

  • 15+ years in multifamily real estate leadership, portfolio operations, or related business functions.
  • Proven ability to work across multiple functions (operations, finance, technology, and property management).
  • Demonstrated innovation-first mindset; ability to learn quickly and introduce new approaches.
  • Hands-on execution style with experience working in lean teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; able to work with a wide variety of leaders and company cultures.
  • Track record of successfully driving integrations, process improvements, and strategic initiatives.
  • Comfort with both financial analysis and technology adoption, bridging a critical gap between finance and innovation.
  • Experience in private equity–backed or growth-oriented environments a plus.

Benefits

  • A high-impact leadership role shaping the future of multifamily property operations.
  • The chance to own strategic initiatives that cut across the platform, from insurance and revenue to process and technology.
  • Competitive salary, bonus, and full benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k match).
  • Flexible PTO, professional development opportunities, and team retreats.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where execution and innovation go hand-in-hand.
