About the role
- Systems Administrator II managing and optimizing Windows Server environments on VMware for an IT service provider. Focused on security, reliability, and performance while collaborating with vendors and clients.
Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server 2019–2025 in VMware ESX and Hyper-V environments.
- Deploy, configure, patch, and upgrade Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, IIS, FTP, and related applications.
- Manage Dell servers, SANs, and Cisco switches (including VLAN trunking and network segmentation).
- Implement and enforce security best practices and compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2, NIST 800-171A).
- Serve as a technical liaison with third-party application vendors.
- Respond rapidly to incidents, proactively monitor systems, and ensure high availability.
- Participate in after-hours and weekend work as needed.
- Document processes, configurations, and solutions.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience supporting Windows Server environments (2019–2025) in VMware ESX and/or Hyper-V.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, IIS, FTP, and related Microsoft technologies.
- Experience with Dell servers, SANs (EMC/Dell EqualLogic), and Cisco networking (VLANs, trunking, routing).
- Proven ability to implement and maintain security, compliance, and backup solutions.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Willingness to work after hours/weekends and travel as needed.
- Required Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800 & AZ-801), CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+.
