About the role

  • Lead roadmap and systems for large-scale ML model training for General Motors' autonomous vehicle platform, improving training efficiency, observability, and developer productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Own the long-term product vision and roadmap for model training systems across GM’s autonomous vehicle platform, balancing engineering constraints, business needs, and data fidelity requirements.
  • Define strategies for how we address the different stages of ML training workflow (data acquisition, training, evaluation, deployment).
  • Proactively identify gaps and tradeoffs in system performance, data throughput, and developer productivity; lead initiatives to improve observability, efficiency, and control.
  • Drive a metrics-driven approach by defining KPIs for training effectiveness, developer productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, infrastructure, finance teams, and stakeholders to align priorities and translate business needs into engineering work.
  • Make principled decisions, navigate ambiguity, and communicate strategy and technical details in cohesive written narratives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years product management experience
  • Proven ability to balance tradeoffs between consumer needs and expectations, legal and regulatory requirements, and business objectives.
  • Experience developing solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate regulatory, privacy, and engineering user perspectives to ensure clear requirements for data logging.
  • Ability to identify key data and metrics required to make decisions and implications of their movement.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to all stakeholders.
  • Experience managing robotics, AI, machine learning applications (preferred).
  • Relevant educational background in a technical field (preferred).
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future (no H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc.).
  • Role is hybrid and the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week.
