About the role
- Senior Python Engineer responsible for backend API development and maintaining a proxy infrastructure for a web data scraping solutions provider. Collaborating with a remote team on technical projects.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain performant backend APIs that power Webshare’s proxy infrastructure.
- Own the design and delivery of services that handle billions of requests daily.
- Collaborate in a highly autonomous team to scope, plan, and execute work with minimal meetings.
- Investigate and resolve production issues across distributed systems.
- Balance time equally between features, experiments, tech debt, and bug fixes.
- Operate and improve our containerized infrastructure running on Docker Swarm with Traefik.
- Continuously improve system performance, observability, and cost-efficiency.
Requirements
- Strong experience with Python and Django (or similar backend frameworks).
- Proven experience designing and scaling APIs.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and async architectures.
- Comfortable in a Docker-based environment (preferably Swarm).
- Willingness to understand deep networking concepts (BGP, CIDR, ASNs).
- Fluent English (international team).
- Can handle working with a remote team (we’re worldwide).
- Nice to have: Experience with very large datasets.
- Experience with proxies or other networking-related technologies.
- Experience with golang.
