About the role

  • Ownership of Mechanical Lab Operations – Oversee all mechanical laboratory equipment, tools, and facilities, ensuring safety, calibration, and readiness for development work.
  • Quick Prototyping & Fabrication – Operate and maintain a 5-axis CNC machine, 3D printers, and other fabrication tools to produce precision mechanical parts and prototypes that support hardware engineering needs.
  • Metal Machining & Finishing – Perform precision metal machining, milling, and finishing work with high craftsmanship and attention to visual and dimensional quality.
  • Jig and Tooling Prototyping – Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing tools to support product assembly, alignment, and manufacturing processes.
  • 3D Scanning & Modelling – Utilise 3D scanners and CAD software to capture, refine, and iterate mechanical designs.
  • Optical and CMM Measurements – Use optical measurement systems and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) tools to verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface quality of machined and molded parts.
  • Mold Making & Casting – Create silicone molds and prototypes to support iterative mechanical and industrial design validation.
  • Process Development – Develop and implement best practices for mechanical prototyping, metrology, and documentation within Oura’s product development process.
  • Facility Development – Plan and execute improvements to the Oulu mechanical lab’s infrastructure, tooling, and workflows to enhance efficiency and capability.
  • Collaboration – Work closely with mechanical, industrial design, and product engineering teams to translate design concepts into high-quality, visually refined prototypes and enable rapid iteration cycles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical prototyping, machining, or lab management.
  • Strong proficiency with 5-axis CNC machining, metal machining, and precision fabrication techniques.
  • Experience in jig, fixture, and manufacturing tool prototyping.
  • Skilled in optical and CMM measurement techniques for dimensional verification and surface inspection.
  • Proven ability to achieve excellent visual and surface quality in fabricated components.
  • Practical experience with 3D printing, 3D scanning, and mold casting.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as GibbsCAM, SolidWorks and Siemens NX.
  • Proven ability to manage tools, equipment, and lab safety in a technical environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, self-directed approach.
  • Good communication skills in English.
