About the role

  • Define and maintain the overall control system architecture: establish hierarchy, redundancy, communications, and cybersecurity boundaries for integrated operations
  • Lead development of the supervisory control layer: integrate vendor subsystems and manage constraints, coordination logic, and system interactions in alignment with defined Control Law
  • Architect control logic and interlocks: design systems that guide operators naturally toward correct actions and safeguard against unintended behavior
  • Oversee integration and implementation quality: manage partners and vendors to ensure compliance with standards, cybersecurity, and functional acceptance requirements
  • Collaborate across internal and external teams: validate control behavior, interfaces, and hierarchical procedures through simulation, testing, and iterative refinement
  • Support verification and deployment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Chemical, or Controls/Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years in controls with significant systems architecture ownership; leadership of multi-discipline projects preferred
  • Eligible for APEGA registration; P.Eng. (or working toward) strongly preferred
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Strong understanding of flow control, feedback systems, and integrated facility architecture, including redundancy, networking, and historian integration
  • Working familiarity with industrial control and automation systems sufficient to lead multidisciplinary teams and interface effectively with vendors and integrators
  • Experience with model-based design and simulation (Simulink, Modelica, or equivalent) to validate system behavior and performance
  • Knowledge of industrial communication standards (OPC UA, MQTT Sparkplug, Modbus) and data management systems
  • Understanding of functional safety, cybersecurity, and control system reliability principles (IEC 61511/61508, ISA/IEC 62443)
  • Strong communication skills for cross-disciplinary coordination, technical documentation, and stakeholder alignment
