About the role

  • Security Engineer supporting Navy afloat and tactical combat systems cybersecurity. Requires experience with DoD cybersecurity policies and Navy combat systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support Navy afloat and tactical combat systems
  • Contribute to the development, assessment, and implementation of cybersecurity strategies and solutions across complex defense systems
  • Author DoD Cybersecurity Assessment and Authorization (A&A) artifacts
  • Document systems from a cybersecurity perspective using MS Word, Excel, Visio, and other tools
  • Derive and document system CONOPS for Mission Assurance Categorization (DoDI 8500.2)
  • Recommend and implement logical/physical security solutions for certification and accreditation
  • Apply DISA STIGs and NSA security guidance
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between system specs, security requirements, and DoD policies
  • Author and revise system requirements to align with DoD security mandates
  • Conduct Red Team/Blue Team vulnerability testing using ACAS and other tools
  • Plan, execute, and document risk assessments based on known vulnerabilities and threat vectors
  • Analyze connectivity and interface security between Navy warfare systems and external equipment
  • Serve as ISSO and lead security efforts for assigned systems
  • Define and manage Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) Plans
  • Execute and document security test results
  • Support development of cybersecurity requirements, standards, and procedures for combat systems
  • Conduct research and coordination in support of DoD cyber assurance and policy initiatives
  • Participate in working groups to develop strategies against emerging cyber threats
  • Assist in cybersecurity system engineering, risk analysis, and mitigation planning
  • Develop and utilize MBSE models for cybersecurity analysis

Requirements

  • 2+ years of program-specific security engineering experience with Navy afloat/tactical combat systems, or
  • 5+ years of general security engineering experience
  • At least six Security Engineers across the team must have 2+ years of experience with Aegis, SSDS, Zumwalt, or other Navy afloat tactical combat systems
  • IAT Level II or III certification per DoD 8570.01 (or successor) when performing as ISSO, ISSE, or NQV
  • Final adjudicated SSBI with IT Level-1 designation in JPAS must be achieved and maintained
  • At least one Security Engineer must hold an active Top Secret clearance
  • Strong understanding of computer security principles
  • Strong understanding of Military system specifications
  • Strong understanding of DoD cybersecurity policies for both land-based and afloat systems
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
