About the role

  • Provides day to day team management and oversight of project execution and service delivery for scientific infrastructure and scientific instrumentation teams
  • Delegating tasks, providing clear direction, and inspiring collaboration and teamwork
  • Accountable for the development and delivery of scientific IT services and capabilities, strategic planning, budgeting and customer outreach and engagement
  • Overseeing personnel management of 2-3 teams and up to 5 direct reports, including staff recruitment, hiring, performance management, training, and mentoring
  • Ensures service delivery alignment with program and customer strategic goals by developing strategic roadmaps and tracking KPI’s
  • Facilitate regular discussions and collaborate with internal and external resources to understand needs and challenges and develop new capabilities and solutions to enable and advance effective scientific research
  • Develop and communicate plans, dependencies, risks and progress for stakeholder support and effective delivery of outcomes
  • Manage daily operations, tickets, outages and continuous improvement in operational efficiency
  • Provide and communicate metrics and analysis of the team and systems performance
  • Work closely with Program Leadership, Federal Leadership, Researchers Enterprise Architecture and PMO to align and coordinate efforts and provide transparency

Requirements

  • Masters and 10+ years of experience in a Science IT or related discipline
  • Experience managing and delivering scientific IT services
  • Experience leading computational science programs and systems
  • Experience leading and running operations for multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with High Performance Computing infrastructure (HPC) and optimization
  • Experience with scientific research workflows and related tooling including: Sequencing & Omics Analysis, Structural & Molecular Modeling, Imaging & Spatial Analysis, and AI & Data-Driven Modeling
  • Experience with large scale scientific data lifecycle and storage management
  • Experience providing IT support for scientific instrumentation installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting
