About the role
- Principal Electrical Design Engineer at Babcock, delivering complex electrical design projects for national defence. Responsible for leading design processes and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring technical excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead Complex Electrical Design Projects that Power National Defence
- Take a lead role in delivering complex Medium Voltage (1kV - 33kV) design projects
- Focus on designing and modifying electrical power distribution assets and their supporting supervisory control and data acquisition systems
- Lead the full lifecycle of MV electrical design from concept to detailed design and assurance
- Provide technical support for site visits, surveys, and installation solutions
- Produce and review design documentation, including drawings, reports, and specifications
- Offer technical oversight during implementation, including factory and site acceptance testing
- Mentor junior engineers and engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
Requirements
- Extensive experience designing HV/LV electrical distribution systems in regulated or safety-critical environments
- Proven ability to lead design reviews and provide technical assurance
- Strong understanding of legislation, regulations, and standards for electrical engineering
- Significant experience commissioning power distribution systems
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) preferred
- Lower grades considered for development roles
- The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
