Power System Engineer responsible for Electro-magnetic Transient Studies and support in power generation and distribution systems. Joining the team in a hybrid role within DNV's Canada office.
Responsibilities
Perform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), harmonic, energization etc.
Develop/tune PSCAD models, perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking analysis
Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external Customers
Timely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budget
Stay up to date with relevant industry standards such as IEEE, NERC, CIGRE
Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations
Contribute to the team’s research and innovative activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to enhance team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
Cultivate customer relationships, technical advisory support for generations, and large load interconnections connecting to transmission system
Requirements
Master’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis in Power System and Control
Hands-on experience with PSCAD software
Knowledge of inverter-based resources (Wind, Solar, Battery Storage) and associated control
In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy, small-signal and large-signal control stability
Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
Strong written and verbal English communication skills (The employee would be required to draft and review internal documents in English to be used throughout North America)
Active PE License (Preferred)
Doctorate degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems (Preferred)
Hands on experience performing EMT, SSR studies (Preferred)
Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation and data analysis (Preferred)
Demonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including PSS/E, DigSilent Power Factory, TSAT, TARA, ASPEN (Preferred)
Knowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practices (Preferred)
Knowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE) planning & interconnection practices (Preferred)
