About the role

• Interim Engineering Manager at Wikimedia Deutschland leading Wikibase Cloud Engineering Team. Responsible for mentoring engineers and enhancing engineering processes in a hybrid working model.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of six Wikibase Cloud engineers, delivering features that support the product team and enable our communities to achieve their goals.
• Support engineers, product managers, community communication and partnership managers, researchers, and designers in building products and services used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
• Collaborate with other engineering managers and functional team leads on development, technical guidance, and engineering processes.
• Evaluate engineering processes and provide recommendations for improvement to Engineering and Product Leadership.
• Mentor the existing engineering team and support the personal and professional growth of our engineers.
• Help the team maintain a healthy work–life balance, build trust across engineering and product teams, and encourage adoption of new ideas.
• Align development work with the organisation’s values and goals.
• Represent team members within the organisation and to our communities.
• Coordinate with other Wikimedia Deutschland (WMDE) product teams and organisational departments.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an inclusive engineering leader in a collaborative, product-driven, agile software development environment.
• Experience in collaboratively managing and growing diverse, inclusive software development teams working in cross-functional settings, closely partnering with engineers, UX specialists, and product managers.
• Experience managing a hybrid/remote software engineering team.
• A track record of empowering team members and supporting product team decision-making.
• Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and conflict-mitigation skills.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
