About the role
- Interim Engineering Manager at Wikimedia Deutschland leading Wikibase Cloud Engineering Team. Responsible for mentoring engineers and enhancing engineering processes in a hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of six Wikibase Cloud engineers, delivering features that support the product team and enable our communities to achieve their goals.
- Support engineers, product managers, community communication and partnership managers, researchers, and designers in building products and services used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
- Collaborate with other engineering managers and functional team leads on development, technical guidance, and engineering processes.
- Evaluate engineering processes and provide recommendations for improvement to Engineering and Product Leadership.
- Mentor the existing engineering team and support the personal and professional growth of our engineers.
- Help the team maintain a healthy work–life balance, build trust across engineering and product teams, and encourage adoption of new ideas.
- Align development work with the organisation’s values and goals.
- Represent team members within the organisation and to our communities.
- Coordinate with other Wikimedia Deutschland (WMDE) product teams and organisational departments.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an inclusive engineering leader in a collaborative, product-driven, agile software development environment.
- Experience in collaboratively managing and growing diverse, inclusive software development teams working in cross-functional settings, closely partnering with engineers, UX specialists, and product managers.
- Experience managing a hybrid/remote software engineering team.
- A track record of empowering team members and supporting product team decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and conflict-mitigation skills.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
