About the role

  • Lead end-to-end lifecycle management of engineering and product-based IP portfolio
  • Identify, secure, and protect emerging innovations
  • Provide strategic guidance on patent landscape and freedom-to-operate
  • Identify IP risks and opportunities and propose strategies to strengthen AROA’s position
  • Advise new product and R&D project teams
  • Conduct landscape/novelty searches
  • Lead patent drafting and prosecution
  • Outline IP risk and opportunities and manage IP defense
  • Work closely with VP – Product Strategy, the IP Council, and key stakeholders
  • Report to VP – Product Strategy; role is part-time (ideally 20–24 hours/week) and flexible

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering
  • At least 4 years of technical expertise
  • At least 2 years' experience in the IP space
  • Experience with patent drafting and prosecution
  • Ability to conduct landscape/novelty searches and freedom-to-operate assessments
  • Self-starter able to move forward with ambiguity and shift gears
  • Action-orientated with strong stakeholder communication skills
  • Existing New Zealand working rights
