About the role

  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records
  • Manage Accounts Payable function: invoice verification, approval, and entry into accounting systems
  • Execute and manage payment runs and reconcile accounts payable with bank statements
  • Support month-end close and maintain AP reports including aging reports for management
  • Maintain and enforce financial controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and legal regulations
  • Identify and implement process automation and other process improvements for AP
  • Monitor working capital, coordinate payment schedules, and assist with cash flow forecasts
  • Manage currency holdings and international payment processes to optimise efficiency
  • Implement controls to detect and prevent fraud and assess financial risks with mitigation recommendations
  • Collaborate with finance and operations teams, resolve escalated AP issues, and provide financial support to stakeholders
  • Report to the Financial Controller
  • Hybrid role with on-site interviews at Cape Town office; 2-3 days in office weekly; work UK hours (adjusted for SA daylight savings)

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a finance role (typically 3+ years)
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a directly related field (Bachelor’s degree required; diplomas/certificates without a degree will not be considered)
  • Preferably a professional qualification
  • Experience with invoice processing, payment runs, and bank reconciliations
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards (e.g., IFRS or GAAP)
  • Experience supporting month-end close processes and preparing financial reports
  • Background in working with financial controls and compliance frameworks
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
  • Strong Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, reconciliations)
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements, especially in automation
  • Understanding of cash flow management and working capital principles
  • Exposure to multi-currency environments and international payment processes
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory frameworks relevant to accounts payable
  • Must be currently based in Cape Town (only Cape Town-based candidates will be considered)
  • Must be comfortable working UK hours (09:00–18:00 GMT / SA-adjusted times)
