Responsibilities
- Provide SQL Server administration, design, and development support in a dynamic environment
- Collaborate with Application Development teams to ensure our database platforms are resilient, performant, and continuously improving
- Perform system and application monitoring and alerting related to the SQL Server environment
- Work with Application Engineering teams to maintain stored procedures, indexes, and database access interfaces
- Automate systems management tasks
- Conduct performance analysis and tuning, especially in .NET/MS SQL environments
- Operationalize new technologies introduced into the environment
- Collaborate with Business Product Owners to identify priorities for application development and enhancements
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call response rotation
- Demonstrate creative thinking, advanced problem-solving, and troubleshooting
- Administer MS SQL Server (2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2022)
- Implement high availability solutions (Mirroring, Replication, Clustering, Always On)
- Manage database security, users, and roles
- Monitor and analyze SQL query performance
- Provide expertise in writing efficient and effective queries
- Review data scripts and provide feedback
- Implement data recovery techniques from backup/restore
- Monitor real-time transaction processing and identify issues
- Set up and manage clustered databases and replication techniques
- Guide Application Engineering teams in SQL development
- Automate deployment, monitoring, and incident response
- Enhance observability with metrics and dashboards
- Lead incident response and maintain documentation
- Collaborate with engineers to build reliable systems
- Mentor team members and contribute to postmortems
- Use AI tools to drive innovation and continuous improvement
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in DBA, SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering roles
- Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with data platforms, ETL pipelines, and distributed systems
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience with Python, PowerShell, and similar languages
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- Preferred Skills: 5+ years’ experience in query optimization and performance tuning
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, SSIS, SSAS, or PowerShell
- Permissions/User Management experience
- Willingness to learn new technologies and take ownership of technical projects
