About the role

  • Perform exploratory data analysis on retrospective electronic health record (EHR) data to uncover patterns and inform feature and label engineering.
  • Evaluate existing predictive models for postoperative complications and build new models that integrate clinical expertise with novel modelling techniques.
  • Build and expand data and modelling pipelines for experimentation, testing, and result reporting, and maintain documentation.
  • Rigorously evaluate models in the context of accuracy and suitability for clinical workflow within FluidAI’s product ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, clinical trial specialists, product designers, and clinicians to incorporate user needs and clinical knowledge.
  • Conduct focused literature reviews to understand existing and novel modelling techniques.
  • Report on and present results to the wider Clinical-Product-Data team.
  • Support other data analysis, machine learning and/or AI projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Candidate for Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field of study (current full-time student in a Canadian post-secondary program).
  • Co-op 8+ months preferred.
  • Proficiency with Python and standard data science tools for data processing, statistical analysis, machine learning, and visualization (such as NumPy, Polars, scikit-learn, Matplotlib, SQL, etc.).
  • Ability to integrate contextual knowledge, such as clinical expertise or product design requirements, into data analysis.
  • Previous experience developing predictive models with medical data is an asset.
  • Experience in time series forecasting, synthetic data generation, or weak supervision is an asset.
  • Comprehension of medical terminology is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented; strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada and legally entitled to work (international students are not eligible).
