About the role

Senior Engineer providing analytical and engineering support for utility planning. Focused on integration of customer behavior with natural gas and electricity systems at Xcel Energy.

Responsibilities

Provide analytical and engineering support to the Grid Strategy and Emerging Technology team within the Integrated System Planning organization.
Work primarily on the integration of changing customer behaviors and multiple customers facing program offerings into the traditional utility planning processes for natural gas, generation, transmission and distribution.
Be critical to the successful and cost effective decarbonization of the electric and natural gas systems while meeting the customer's changing needs for energy.
Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
Performs as a staff advisor and consultant in a technical specialty.
Carries out complex or innovative assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters.
Work is performed without appreciable direction and considerable latitude is exercised in determining technical objectives of assignment.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers engineering degrees preferred.
2+ year’s relevant engineering experience.
Demonstrated broad knowledge & proficiency in specialty area, knowledge of related specialties, & general knowledge of other related disciplines.
Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills & core competencies for this engineering level established & documented by the organization.
EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) strongly preferred.
Required bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited curriculum, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers engineering degrees preferred.
5+ years relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) required; 7+ years relevant engineering experience without EIT/FE.
Preferred PE (Professional Engineer) registration may be required depending on business need.
Utility load simulation and resource modeling tools such as Encompass, LoadSEER.
