About the role

  • Education Specialist/Instructional Designer at WashU Medical Campus working with faculty on instructional materials and digital media. Collaborating on course design and faculty training to improve student outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff, providing guidance on the effective instructional design of courses and sessions.
  • Support subject matter experts in the development and creation of content for their courses and instructional sessions.
  • Provide assistance with the creation of course material/media supporting student learning objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with ID Studio and other School of Medicine colleagues to create interactive videos and other multimedia for instructional needs.
  • Liaise with WashU Information Technology and other instructional designers and education specialists to solve common problems and maximize use of available tools, services, spaces, and resources.
  • Promote available instructional design services within the School of Medicine community.
  • Partner in the collaboration and development of training resources for faculty, staff, and/or students.
  • Partner in the delivery of training sessions for faculty, staff, and/or students.
  • Develop and manage multiple project plans.
  • Establish deadlines with project partners, lead project meetings, and effectively communicate project milestones.
  • Provide consultation and training on educational technologies and course/session design to the WUSM community.
  • Provide support in the design and creation of instructional materials for WashU Medicine faculty through appropriate instructional solutions based on best practices, educational research, and appropriate assessment methods.
  • Assist in resolving copyright and fair use issues for instructional materials in collaboration with Becker Medical Library staff.
  • Participate in WashU Medicine community activities and professional development.
  • Attend and present at professional conferences as needed.
  • Travel to on-campus and off-campus sites to provide collaborative support for instructional content/media as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree
  • Development of Educational/Training Materials (1 Year)
  • Master’s degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, or a related field (preferred).
  • Three years’ experience as an instructional designer, or equivalent mix of education and practical experience (preferred).
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and pedagogical modalities frequently used in health professions education (preferred).
  • Experience with current educational technologies and their applications in professional education settings (preferred).
  • Experience with learning management systems including or similar to Canvas (preferred).
  • Experience with multimedia and graphic design software and web design tools (preferred).
  • Experience developing project plans, managing multiple projects, and meeting project deadlines (preferred).
  • Experience articulating emerging learning technologies and collaboration tools to a wide community that includes faculty, professional staff, and School of Medicine partners (preferred).
  • Experience in medical education, health professions education, or healthcare setting (preferred).
  • Teaching or administrative experience with the Canvas LMS (preferred).
