About the role
- Senior Solar PV Design Engineer designing utility-scale solar PV systems and overseeing project engineering deliverables. Collaborating with clients and internal teams to ensure design compliance and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and engineer utility-scale solar PV and energy storage (BESS) systems at 5-50MW or higher.
- Develop comprehensive electrical system designs including: System layout of modules and equipment, Equipment selection and specification development, One-line and three-line diagrams, DC, LVAC and MVAC cable sizing and routing, SCADA and communication system design, Relay & communication programming: SEL 651, 751, 735, & RTAC, Grounding system design, Wiring diagrams, trench design, and basic pole design.
- Engineering studies, including, but not limited to arc flash, coordination, grounding, thermal ampacity, lightning risk assessment.
- Prepare complete construction drawings using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate with clients, utilities, permitting authorities, contractors, and partnering engineering firms.
- Support Construction Administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits.
- Manage multiple projects effectively and ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and industry best practices, including NEC requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 5-7+ years of experience designing commercial and/or utility-scale solar PV systems.
- Experience collaborating with construction, technical, and non-technical teams.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with AutoCAD, including layer control, dimensioning, scaling, sheet sets, blocks, xrefs, line weights, and file management.
- Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) license required
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (or similar CAD platforms).
- Proficiency with power system design and modeling software (e.g., Etap, CYMCAP, WinGIS, PSCAD, PSS/E, CDEGS).
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and design tools.
- Occasional travel or field visits may be required to support project needs or stakeholder collaboration.
