About the role
- SAP Basis Engineer managing SAP ECC and S/4HANA systems within Walmart Global Tech. Responsible for system administration, troubleshooting, integration support, and cloud operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on leadership for SAP NetWeaver (ECC) and SAP S/4HANA systems.
- Perform SAP ECC and S/4HANA BASIS administration, including installations, kernel and support pack upgrades, and system copies.
- Oversee daily SAP Basis operations, including monitoring, reporting, housekeeping, and capacity planning.
- Handle L2/L3 BASIS KTLO operations, including incidents, problems, changes, and on-call support.
- Govern SAP transport management using STMS and Solution Manager ChaRM.
- Plan and execute SAP kernel upgrades, support package stacks, and patching activities with minimal business disruption.
- Use SAP Solution Manager / SAP Focused Run for technical system monitoring, job/RFC/interface monitoring, alert handling, and first-level root cause analysis.
- Use SAP Cloud ALM where applicable for cloud-focused monitoring.
- Perform HANA troubleshooting and execute DVM strategies at app or DB layers.
- Maintain SOPs, runbooks, and KT documentation.
- Drive complex troubleshooting across SAP Fiori, SAP GUI, Enterprise Portal, printers, and interface components.
- Execute structured troubleshooting across SAP, OS, database, network, and interface layers.
- Lead integration support involving PI/PO, BW, Portal, ADS, SSO, and SAML 2.0.
- Own Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major incidents and implement preventive actions.
- Support SAP BODS operations, including job monitoring, performance troubleshooting, and connectivity issues.
- Support SAP security configurations, including: SSL certificate lifecycle management (STRUST, PSE maintenance).
- Support for SAML and OAuth-based authentication.
- Execute vulnerability management activities, including: Applying and validating SAP Security Notes and kernel patches.
- Coordinating and executing OS-level patching with infrastructure teams.
- Performing post-patch validation and regression checks.
- Identify performance and cost optimization initiatives across SAP systems and infrastructure.
- Operate SAP systems in hybrid landscapes (Azure/GCP and on-prem), including availability, performance, backups, patching, and maintenance.
- Provide technical support for SAP workloads on cloud platforms (Azure / GCP).
- Support infrastructure automation and DevOps practices using Terraform, Ansible, scripting (Shell/Python), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop automation scripts (Shell, Python, PowerShell) for monitoring, housekeeping, and patch validation.
Requirements
- 7–9+ years of SAP Basis and SAP infrastructure experience across SAP ECC and S/4HANA, with strong production (KTLO) ownership.
- Strong working knowledge of core SAP platforms including ECC, S/4HANA, BW/4HANA,MDG, SLT PI/PO, Solution Manager (ChaRM), SAP BTP, SAP Cloud Connector, SAP Enterprise Portal, and SAP Fiori.
- Hands-on experience operating SAP in hybrid cloud environments (Azure and/or GCP).
- Working knowledge of SAP HANA administration (monitoring and troubleshooting; not DBA-heavy).
- Solid understanding of SAP security and patching practices, including SAP Security Notes, SSL/certificates, SAML, OAuth, and OS-level patching.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across SAP, OS, database, network, and integration layers.
- Scripting and automation experience using Shell/Python/PowerShell, with exposure to DevOps tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Experience with enterprise infrastructure components including networking, load balancers, firewalls, storage, and Linux/Unix systems.
- Exposure to S/4HANA upgrades/conversions, Focused Run advanced monitoring, and hybrid integration components is a plus.
