About the role
- Director of Data at Upvest responsible for owning Data & AI strategy and team leadership. Build and scale data platforms while ensuring compliance in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Own Data & AI at Upvest
- Define and execute the company’s data strategy
- Build and scale data and AI platforms
- Drive measurable business value through data and AI initiatives
- Lead all aspects of the data ecosystem
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Build, lead, and grow a high-performance team of data and machine learning engineers and data scientists
- Mentor and develop team members
- Set and maintain high technical standards
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and accountability
- Align with cross-functional partners to deliver on company-wide goals
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in data and AI, including at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Proven experience in a regulated fintech, finance, or banking environment, preferably B2B, with deep understanding of API-first SaaS products
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing modern data stacks (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, Dagster)
- Demonstrated track record of delivering multiple AI/ML systems into production with clear ROI
- Deep knowledge of data modeling, data contracts, and data observability
- Proficiency in designing low-latency inference pipelines and secure deployment patterns
- Proven experience leading and scaling multidisciplinary teams of 5+ people across data engineering, ML engineering, and data science
- Exceptional ability to build and align high-performing, inclusive teams from the ground up
- Strong communication skills to align with and influence cross-functional stakeholders (Operations, Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, Finance) and executive leadership
