About the role

Lead Quality Software Engineer at Transamerica focused on defining and improving software quality practices. Responsibilities include test automation, CI/CD integration, and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade testing frameworks and standards with an automation-first, shift-left focus.
Define and document best practices for automated testing, API testing, performance, security, and test data management.
Perform hands-on quality engineering including test strategy development, automated test creation, exploratory testing, and defect analysis.
Validate distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions to ensure testability and maintainability.
Lead the design and evolution of test automation frameworks integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
Embed automated quality gates into build and deployment workflows.
Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to ensure reliable, scalable test execution in cloud and containerized environments.
Mentor engineers on automation frameworks, tooling, and modern testing methodologies.
Communicate quality risks, metrics, and results to technical and business stakeholders.
Define, track, and analyze quality metrics including automation coverage, defect trends, and pipeline health.
Participate in enterprise initiatives to define and evolve Transamerica-wide quality standards.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
5 years of experience with modern distributed applications, microservices, and database systems.
5 years of hands-on experience in software quality engineering with a strong emphasis on automation.
Strong proficiency in .NET/C# and/or Java/Spring Framework.
Advanced understanding of object-oriented and functional programming, service-oriented and microservices architecture, dependency injection, and core design patterns.
Test Automation: Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Postman, REST-assured, NUnit, JUnit, Cucumber, SpecFlow.
Performance & Reliability (3–5 years): JMeter, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Splunk.
CI/CD and DevOps enablement (5–8 years) using Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
4–6 years testing applications in AWS and/or Azure including EC2, ECS, S3, Kinesis, Azure VMs, Blob Storage, Cosmos DB, Event Hubs, Data Factory, and SQL Data Warehouse.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code such as ARM Templates.
4–6 years working with Angular, React, or Vue.js, ASP.NET MVC, HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and AJAX.
Experience applying AI-assisted and AI-driven development practices to improve software quality, test effectiveness, and delivery efficiency, including test generation, defect analysis, and quality insights.
Experience with Kiro for AI-driven development and testing is a plus.
