About the role

  • Actuarial Advisor leading R&D test-and-learn initiatives for Cigna's Precision Claims and Trend program. Focusing on accuracy and precision in estimating unpaid claims and medical trends.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and lead select R&D test-and-learn initiatives, including formulation of hypotheses, analytical design, back-testing, and interpretation of results.
  • Provide project management and coordination for the portfolio of Precision Claims & Trend R&D test-and-learns across actuarial and data science teams.
  • Lead day-to-day R&D program governance, including ideation, prioritization, progress tracking, and documentation of learnings.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between actuarial, data science, and technology partners to ensure alignment on objectives, assumptions, and success criteria.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement for the R&D program, including regular communication of progress, findings, risks, and trade-offs to actuarial/finance and data science leadership and key partners.

Requirements

  • Strong actuarial background with experience in medical claims reserving, trend analysis, or related financial analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex analytical workstreams without formal people-management authority.
  • Experience executing analytical or research initiatives while also coordinating work across multiple stakeholders.
  • Comfort working with large, complex datasets and modern analytical tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R, SAS).
  • Working knowledge of advanced analytics, predictive modeling, or machine learning concepts and their actuarial applications.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, early-stage R&D environments and balance execution with governance.
