About the role

  • AI Research Scientist exploring quantum advantage in AI applications for real-world problems. Collaborating across disciplines to develop innovative solutions at Thales in Montreal.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in quantum computing and quantum algorithms to explore quantum advantage for complex, real-world problems.
  • Work on multidisciplinary projects spanning areas such as optimization, signal processing, and machine learning.
  • Develop proof-of-concept implementations on both quantum simulators and real quantum hardware to validate theoretical models and assess practical feasibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate research breakthroughs into deployable prototypes and production-ready systems.
  • Publish research findings in relevant and top-tier conferences and journals, and contribute to innovation and patent filings.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exercise good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain improved solutions.
  • Build strong collaborations with academic and research organizations (e.g., NSERC, MITACS) and with industrial partners.
  • Elicit, collect, and synthesize system requirements from stakeholders and help shape effective research and innovation roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or master’s degree in quantum computing, quantum algorithms, or a closely related field, combined with practical experience addressing real-world problems.
  • Solid theoretical knowledge of quantum computing fundamentals and principles, including quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, and quantum machine learning.
  • Experience applying quantum approaches to NP-hard optimization problems for large-scale graph problems in communications networks or other relevant real-world applications.
  • Experience with quantum computing frameworks such as Qiskit, Pasqal, or other neutral-atom-based quantum technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, with experience in ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn; proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++.
  • Proven experience designing and executing experiments, refining models, performing optimization, and conducting data analysis.
  • Critical thinker with the ability to communicate scientific work clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with creative and strategic thinking.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
