About the role

  • Design Apprentice for Knitwear at Tapestry, collaborating with designers to create fashion-driven knit concepts. Engage in all aspects of the design process in a creative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Director, Design – Knitwear to initiate concepts each season that are fashion driven, reflective of the creative vision and brand aesthetic.
  • Collaborate with talented designers and cross-functional partners in the business.
  • Partner with Senior Director to create and refine knit designs from concept to show sample across Women’s’ and Men’s Retail and Outlet Channels.
  • Collaborate with design team on research boards and color palette.
  • Generate seasonal research; both visual and vintage.
  • Research seasonal yarns and work with knitwear vendors on all fabric development.
  • Partner with merchandising to research market trends and understand business needs.
  • Responsible for timeline adherence; ensure all Design Cards are completed accurately and delivered to Development on time; ensure all samples are available for product presentation and finalization.
  • Responsible for upholding design integrity, high quality execution, and timeliness throughout the entire development process from concept through commercialization.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Merchandising, Concept, Print, and Product Development on regular basis; participate in meetings with cross-functional category partners.

Requirements

  • Must possess a strong fashion sense and have the ability to interpret trends
  • Must have knowledge in knitwear design and yarn technology
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group at all levels
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-up
  • Must be flexible and adapt easily to change
  • Passion for RTW and a thirst for knowledge
  • 1+ years related work/internship experience in design; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Excellent hand sketching skills; ability to create both freeform garment renderings and renderings on figure drawings
  • Ability to CAD technical drawings and strength in image manipulation
  • Experience developing product directly with factories; understanding of knitwear development from concept through commercialization
  • Understanding of materials, and garment construction & performance
  • Understanding of garment fit & and ability to independently conduct fittings on a model
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office
