About the role

• Structural Designer/EIT joining the transportation team at a leading design firm. Assisting in bridge design and engineering investigations for innovative transportation projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design of bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures incorporating California DOT practices and AASHTO LRFD standards
• Assist with conducting engineering investigations, feasibility studies, cost, and risk analysis
• Assist with assessing and identifying bridge load ratings
• Use of advanced structural analysis/design software and 3D models
• Assist with the completion of bridge construction plans and specifications
• Assist with preparing structural computations, material quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates and helping in checking the work of others
• Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural design, Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 0-5 years of professional experience in the design of bridges and structures
• Previous internship experience in bridge design, analysis or inspection a plus
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) designation preferred or ability to obtain within six months from date of hire
• Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation
• Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team
• Some working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
• Familiarity with California DOT and AASHTO LRFD codes a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues
• Microstation experience is a plus
• Experience with structural design is a plus
• Excellent organization, project management and communication skills both written and verbal along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team
