About the role

  • Senior Accountant providing expert-level financial and accounting support at Gates Institute. Managing budgets, grants, and ensuring compliance on funding proposals and expenditures.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and track departmental budgets and funding distributions; provide recommendations.
  • Act as a key partner in all fiscal and operational reporting needs and projects.
  • Serve as a lead reviewer for business unit reconciliations prepared by other team members.
  • Performs Payroll Expense Transfers (PETs) and Journal Entries (JEs) as needed in compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and process deposits for large checks and electronic payments, verifying accuracy and coding to the correct speedtypes and accounts.
  • Review and approval , travels (Concur), and capital expenditure (unless this falls into something above).
  • Act as a post-award grant administrator and subject matter expert for the business unit.
  • Work with the PIs and the OGC to coordinate the receipt of funded proposals including: Review notices of grant awards with the PI, making note of any special restrictions.
  • Respond to requests from funders for information/clarification needed for funding decisions including preparation of other support documentation for grant personnel and budget revision and justification.
  • Work with the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) in order to identify cost-sharing in proposals and assure accurate accounting.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 4 years of experience working with finances, grants/contracts, budget management, and/or procurement.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • A master’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • Direct experience with pre- and post-award administration (preferred).
  • Experience working in an academic medical center (preferred).
  • Previous experience with University of Colorado, Finance, payroll, A2E and procurement systems (preferred).
