About the role
- Underwriting Product Engineer building analytical applications for data-driven decision making at Swiss Re. Collaborating with underwriters and AI/ML engineers to transform complex data into insights.
Responsibilities
- Engineer and develop high-performance analytical applications, dashboards, and components that serve underwriters and steering teams
- Write clean, efficient code that supports real-time, high-trust insight delivery across our organization
- Implement robust standards for version control, testing, and documentation for all work products
- Collaborate closely with product managers to translate business requirements into working features
- Partner with AI/ML engineers and data architects to ensure infrastructure compatibility and downstream usability
- Align with the Stargate data platform and adhere to shared development patterns
- Support testing and monitoring of deployed tools to ensure reliability and performance
- Document code and logic clearly to ensure auditability and team-wide understanding
- Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and architectural evolution of the analytics stack
Requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or other rigorous technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience building data-driven applications, dashboards, or analytical tooling
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, or R
- Experience with frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Plotly, Dash)
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles including version control (Git), modularity, and testing
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, GCP, Snowflake, or Palantir)
- Experience working with large datasets and integrating with data pipelines
- Knowledge of insurance or financial services industry
- Experience in agile development environments
- Background in data visualization best practices
