About the role

  • Data Scientist utilizing Machine Learning and statistics for business solutions at Suzano, a leader in sustainable products. Collaborating with teams and creating models for data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Create models and model ensembles using combined techniques from Machine Learning, statistics, and optimization to solve business problems;
  • Build tools focused on increasing the team's productivity in critical Machine Learning activities such as preprocessing, model development and deployment;
  • Interpret results and produce visualizations and insights that build compelling narratives and action plans for the organization;
  • Establish strong relationships with multiple internal areas to ensure comprehensive understanding of business requirements;
  • Work in an agile, collaborative model within squads;
  • Guide the team on methodology, tools and knowledge for solving problems with Machine Learning;
  • Define best practices for Data Management and Code Management to ensure timeliness and rigor in developed solutions;
  • Connect business problems to analytical opportunities, being able to estimate business benefits;
  • Communicate professionally and concisely the benefits and levers of digital products to business stakeholders at various seniority levels;
  • Provide technical leadership in one of the data science domains (Optimization, Computer Vision, NLP, etc.) across tribes, defining requirements, technologies and best practices;
  • Build and manage analyses of multiple large-volume databases (e.g. transaction, seller, customer databases) using various technical tools (SQL, R, Python, Excel) to produce well-founded analyses with quality and rigor;
  • Develop integer linear, mixed-integer optimization models, evolutionary algorithms and models using Artificial Intelligence techniques to solve business problems;
  • Define the problem framing, features and the best way to create models for solutions;
  • Create models as microservices or APIs on cloud or on-premises environments;
  • Define, together with IT teams, Architecture, Security and Infrastructure requirements to ensure robustness and automation in developed solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM fields (statistics, technology, engineering or mathematics);
  • Solid experience in data science—modeling and/or optimization projects;
  • Experience with advanced analytical methods (e.g. Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Optimization, among others);
  • Experience with programming languages and technologies such as Python, R and SQL;
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, such as containers, virtual machines, NoSQL databases and integration;
  • Experience programming in Python and/or R and using these tools to publish models as microservices or APIs in the cloud or on-premises;
  • Experience with collaboration and code versioning tools;
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions, etc.);
  • Preferred experience with exact optimization models and/or heuristics for problem solving;
  • Technical knowledge: advanced statistics and financial analysis concepts;
  • Preferred experience working with analytics, predictive modeling and data interpretation or similar areas;
  • Experience in the industrial sector is considered a plus;
  • Preferred specialization or postgraduate degree in machine learning, statistics or operations research;
  • Preferred experience in strategy consulting and/or financial services.
