About the role

  • Structural Engineer collaborating on structural design for educational, commercial, and industrial projects. Joining Stantec's Buildings team to enhance quality of life through design.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in the development of structural design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats
  • Performs design calculations per code and client requirements
  • Collaborates with structural team lead for structural design and overall management of projects as part of a project team
  • Works closely with team lead and other engineers on large projects of high complexity
  • Provides mentoring and assists in training of structural designers and EITs
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various structural phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details
  • Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers
  • Provides review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks
  • Assists with the development of proposals for projects of varying size and complexity

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work with, and contribute to, a larger team (people management experience, including project-related work, is highly desirable)
  • Requisite knowledge and application of structural material design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
  • Working knowledge of several different construction types including steel, concrete, wood and masonry
  • Understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards
  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit; Structural Component Design Software, Comprehensive Building Analysis Software, and Structure Finite Element Analysis such as Tekla, Bently/RAM Products, Risa 3D, and/or CSI Products
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering is required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience
