Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer at Stantec engaged in multi-disciplinary engineering projects including infrastructure and geotechnical designs. Collaborating in a team environment with field visits and supervision responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Working on a variety of small to large projects in diverse areas such as transportation & infrastructure, power, mining, residential, commercial, and industrial developments
Supervising staff working on field work and testing such as borehole drilling & test pit excavations, laboratory testing, construction site review, rock anchor testing, slope stability assessments (rock and soil)
Designing monitoring and instrumentation programs, including the installation and operation of geotechnical instrumentation (e.g., piezometers, inclinometers, settlement plates, shape acceleration arrays, and other geotechnical instruments) and monitoring ground behavior based on instrument data
Managing geotechnical investigations, including field coordination with subcontractors, preparing laboratory testing schedules, documenting the results, and budget management
Designing and assessing engineering design of geological and/or geotechnical systems, including deep and shallow foundation design, slope stability assessment, settlement analysis, soil improvement, etc.
Developing project scopes, budgets, staffing, and schedules as part of proposal preparation
Preparing and writing proposals, technical reports, memorandums, project specifications, construction documents, and drawings
Client management and interaction with clients
Other general field and office-related duties as required
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geological Engineering from a recognized university
Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering with specific emphasis on advanced soil mechanics and numerical analysis is preferred
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering is required
Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing with the Professional Engineers Ontario association or eligible for registration if transferring from another province
Strong technical skill set. Experience in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, mining, tunnelling, and numerical modelling are considered assets
Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience working on projects in the transportation sector including design of bridges, rail systems and cut and fill for transportation corridors
Proficient with geotechnical software applications, numerical analysis, and proficiency in using Microsoft Excel as a tool for data collation, reduction and analysis
Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thinking
Demonstrated ability to multitask and to work towards maintaining project deliverable schedules
Strong oral and written communication skills
Bilingual (English/French) communication skills are considered an asset
Valid Canadian driver’s license with access to a vehicle
