About the role
- Bridge Engineering Intern supporting structural engineering in transportation projects for Stantec. Working on multi-disciplinary projects under the guidance of Professional Bridge Engineers.
Responsibilities
- Execute the structural engineering portion of various highway, transit, and rail projects through all phases from proposal preparation, project kick-off, preliminary design, detailed design, tendering, construction, and contract administration
- Assist with development of design plans, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Prepare, check and deliver engineering calculations, reports and technical studies
- Regular collaboration with other transportation design professionals and teams to complete projects
- Undertake culvert and bridge inspections to assess condition
Requirements
- Strong understanding of structural engineering design concepts
- Experience with structural modeling and design software, such as CSiBridge or equivalent
- Working knowledge of CAD software and collaborative tools such as Autodesk or BlueBeam
- Basic knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and MTO design manuals and standards
- Familiarity with MTO design requirements and specifications is an asset
- Effective communication skills, including experience in report and proposal preparation
- Experience in structural inspection, condition surveys, and construction supervision is an asset
- University degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in the field of structural design
- 0 – 4 years of related work experience. Previous bridge-related work experience is an asset
- Registered or working toward Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.)
