About the role
- Assistant Accounting Manager at a public accounting firm overseeing financial operations and bookkeeping. Involved in month-end close processes and ongoing financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Support the Accounting Manager in executing monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Prepare and own assigned journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules for manager review
- Take responsibility for specific areas of the general ledger as assigned
- Conduct variance analysis and investigate discrepancies in financial data
- Prepare draft financial statements and supporting documentation for manager review
- Assist in the preparation of management reports and financial analysis packages
- Own day-to-day bookkeeping activities for assigned entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Assist the Accounting Manager with multi-entity consolidation processes
- Maintain organized and accurate accounting records for all assigned entities
- Execute and maintain established accounting processes and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with documented procedures and identify potential gaps or improvements
- Support internal and external audit activities by preparing requested documentation and responding to inquiries
- Stay current with accounting standards and best practices
- Support ad-hoc analysis and special projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Professional accounting designation preferred or in-progress: CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CA (Chartered Accountant), or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
- Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or multi-entity corporate environment
- Experience with month-end close processes and account reconciliations
- Exposure to multi-entity bookkeeping or consolidations is an asset
- Understanding of internal controls and accounting processes
- Solid knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting standards
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, SAP, or similar)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
