About the role
- Legal Counsel providing strategic legal support to HR and business leaders on employment law issues in aerospace and national security. Responsibilities include compliance and collaboration with legal team.
Responsibilities
- Provide proactive, practical, and strategic legal advice to Human Resources and business leaders on a wide range of employment law matters, including hiring, discipline, terminations, wage and hour compliance, accommodations, workplace investigations, performance management and employee relations.
- Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions where the company operates.
- Draft, review, and update employment-related documents, including handbooks, offer letters, separation agreements, restrictive covenants, and workplace policies.
- Provide internal training on relevant employment law topics.
- Respond to subpoenas, government agency inquiries, and requests for information, and prepare position statements or other responses.
- Manage and oversee the work of outside counsel on employment and business litigation, including strategy development, budgeting, and settlement negotiations.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the legal department and cross-functional teams to support business objectives while mitigating legal risk.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a respected law firm or as in-house counsel, specifically with employment law
- Admitted in good standing to practice law in at least one state
- Substantial corporate, commercial, and technology transactional experience and superior contract drafting and negotiating skills
- Experience and competence in corporate legal issues
- Ability to identify and mitigate legal risk and develop workable business solutions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to motivate/work with others
- Ability to organize projects/tasks and meet established deadlines
- Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
