Environmental Claims Specialist managing complex claims in construction defect and environmental contamination. Requires investigation, evaluation, and negotiation of claims for resolution.
Responsibilities
Verify historic coverage, if needed, and investigate long-tail losses.
Evaluate damages, determine liability and set reserves.
Work with selected defense counsel and co-carriers in the investigation and preparation of the defense.
Detect potential problems or trends and refer to appropriate level for resolution.
Determine if contribution and subrogation potential exists and take necessary steps.
Accurately document claims files, capturing and updating relevant data.
Evaluate, negotiate settlements and pay claims within assigned authority limits.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience; Juris Doctor is beneficial.
5+ years of insurance-related work experience, preferably managing litigated general liability claims.
Previous insurance experience handling latent liability claims involving construction defect, environmental, or toxic tort litigation is preferred.
Analytical abilities to review, exercise judgement, and evaluate claims.
Knowledge of current and historic liability insurance policies and coverages.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Proficiency in personal computer, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
