About the role
- Senior Architect leading AI-driven development architecture for Elsevier's Engineering platforms. Designing scalable systems and providing technical consultancy across various technology areas.
Responsibilities
- Architectural ownership of the applicable capabilities, systems and tooling with a strong focus on AI driven development
- Provide consultancy, leadership, and promotion of development best practices
- Provide architecture and design for complex systems
- Perform technical evaluations of new technology and acquisition candidates as required
- Present technical proposals and solutions to Senior Management stakeholders
- Assist in the development of comprehensive information security procedures and practices
- Respond to enterprise security issues, quickly designing and implementing solutions to respond to security requirements
- Act as a conduit between Global Architecture (Enterprise Architects) and the Engineering or Development teams
- Work across/with Architects from different organizations
- Introduce/train teams with new technology and methods
- Extract/translate findings into alternatives/solutions, identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making
- Drive technical direction and architecture evolution via reviews and on-floor leadership
- Proactively monitor new development to discover subsystems or components that should be evolved into shared capabilities
- Proactively research, monitor, learn, and assess industry/technology advancements and continually build alliances to explore ways to leverage and advance our technical opportunities
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software development, architecture, or related technical fields
- Strong understanding of architectural design, governance, and modern AI driven development methods
- Hands on experience with Git, GitHub, and contemporary coding practices
- Familiarity with AI assisted development tools and their underlying architectures (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Copilot Studio, MCP Servers, API Gateway, OpenAI platforms, Large Language Models)
- Experience with agentic development methods and AI driven workflows
- Working knowledge across several technical areas such as cloud architectures, API design, front end development, TypeScript, Java, SQL, and CI/CD tooling
- Understanding of DevSecOps principles, including secure toolchains and RBAC
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience leading teams through complex technical challenges
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to adapt information for different audiences.
